Refused scholarship offering for one reason

One school is noting their disapproval for a scholarship offering from a popular established club in the US. The Lake Mason Lions Club, whom have been granting a $500 scholarship to many men and women who attended vocational schools have had their offer rejected by some. They noted the rejection came after they made alterations to their requirements a few years ago noting that recipients must be a US citizen. However, the Wisconsin Dell School District rejected the club’s offer citing that their requirement was a breach of federal and state law.

The school rejection came as they noted their school body was a mixture of both national and international students and everyone deserved a fair chance at applying for the scholarship once they met the other requirements. The club however, said they just wanted the student receiving the scholarship to be a US citizen and they can’t see the big issue the school is having.

In a statement to NBC News, Wisconsin Dells High School Principal, Hugh Gaston highlighted the red flags of the scholarship and how it goes against what the school provides to its students, “fairness and equal opportunity.”

The club has since sought the advice of attorneys to get further details on the claim that it is against federal and state laws to which they said that is not true. They have noted their lack of knowledge on such an issue and said organizations were free to give scholarships as they see fit or as per their own requirements. The club is deemed on doing and said they will keep their requirements has they desire and offer the option to other schools.

The Wisconsin school also has pledged to not accept the offer unless they make it open to all the students no matter their origin or country of citizenship.
