How to obtain a PGDM degree in India, know about the Eligibility, entrance exams and cost

A PGDM course or Post graduate diploma in Management is considered to a popular course in India, as it enhances the work efficacy in the job sectors efficiently and increases the prospect of job security, increased salary and promotions. This two-year post graduate could be gained by studying part-time or full-time.

Part-time courses are more flexible and would suit the working professionals the best. However, the part-time courses will require additional time as well. On the other hand, the full-time courses will take 2 years, yet the course is on-campus and compact in schedule. It is not possible to pursue a full-time course along with a job.

However, PGDM and MBA are almost same in nomenclature and syllabus. Those two are also considered to be of same value. Yet, the basic difference lies in the practice-based studies. Where MBA emphasizes the theoretical aspect of management, the PGDM courses are more focused on developing industry oriented soft skills.  

Eligibility for PGDM

  • The candidate must have completed 10+2 with at least 50% marks.
  • The candidate must have completed any kind of graduation from any reputed university, college or autonomous institution (Yet, bachelor in Business administration is preferred for the admission of PGDM course.

The entrance exams for PGDM

Getting admitted in to a top-rated business school requires lots of preparation. At first, the candidate has to prepare for the written exams. Later, there will be various viva-oriented exams, including group discussions, psychological test, general skill test etc. Most commonly accepted entrance exams are CAT, CMAT and CET. For Maharashtra, the candidates will have to appear in the MH-CET exam. It is very crucial to gather a decent score in the written exam. Later the viva-oriented exams will be held on the basis of financial market knowledge, politics, economics as well as current affairs. It is very important to be confident during group discussion as well as personal interviews. Besides, remaining well-spoken and well-dresses is another important pre-requisite.

Types of PGDM courses:

The types of PGDM courses could be varied from institution to institution. A wide range of specialization in management is available including the marketing, finance, human resource, digital business management, telecom management, hospital management, corporate and business law, BFSI, Travel and tourism management, mass media management, insurance management, pharmaceutical business management.

Eligibility:

  •  The candidates must have 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in both X and XII.
  • The candidate must have minimum 3 year’s Bachelor’s Degree, with at least 50% marks or equivalent CGPA in any discipline from any University incorporated by an Act of the Central or State legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an Act of Parliament or declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India.
  • The Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent.
  • Candidates appearing for the final examination for the Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent examination) and completing all requirements for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree by 30th June 2017 can also apply, subject to furnishing evidence to that effect latest by 1st October 2017.

Foreign/NRI/PIO Applicants

  • Admission to the PGDM program requires a Bachelor's degree (in keeping with the 10 + 2 + 3 system) or an equivalent qualification in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). Candidates appearing for final examinations towards a Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) are also eligible to apply.
  • Foreign/NRI/PIO applicants can be considered for admission on the basis of their valid GMAT scores (taken not before Sunday, 1st January 2019 and not any later than Saturday, 31st December 2018).
  • Applicants have to apply online by visiting MDI website https://www.mdi.ac.in. Online registration for Foreign/NRI/PIO Applicants will be open till 2nd January 2017, 17:00 hrs.
  • Candidates have to register for MDI Programme at GMAT website at the time of taking GMAT Examination. Applicants shortlisted on the basis of their GMAT score will be interviewed by MDI.
  • NRI Applicants who are residing in India during the period of admission process i.e. July-December, 2016 will have to appear for the CAT and will not be considered for admission on the basis of their valid GMAT scores.
  • The government of India (GOI) rules will be followed related to admission of these categories of candidates. GOI guidelines will be applicable in determining the NRI status of applicants.
