Educational support for deaf children in England in complete disarray

The educational support for the deaf in England is in a state of complete disarray as the number of education seekers increases while the suitable teachers are only limited. The number of deaf students in UK is estimated to be 45,000 currently. The situation is getting serious as the ratio of teachers to students in some areas reportedly has fallen to one to hundred. Most of the staff are nearing their retirement age, which means this gap is going to expand if not immediately interjected and filled.

The deaf students already face problems keeping up with the speed at which their counterparts, who can hear, study. The problem requires immediate attention because the statistics suggest that if this trend follows, an entire upcoming generation of deaf children will be at the risk of suffering from the lack of educational opportunities

 The recruiters have explained, in their side of the story, that despite continuous tries to hire specialists to assist the deaf children and provide them education, they face problems in recruitment as there seems to be a consistent shortage of them. Deaf children need the assistance of specialists who can teach them to read, write and communicate more profoundly. Although the Government has reported that it is taking every possible action to set this problem straight.

The government has injected £223 million to assist the ministries in improving education, health and care programs that can improve the life standards of the deaf children. Though they can get through local schools with only a little help, they need specialist help as the education level rises and studies and other activities become tough to complete or conduct without appropriate help present at all times.

 The services provided for deaf students have seemingly reached a saturation point as the number of teachers coming in this field reduces considerably, and the number of children who seek such assistance is increasing. The government needs to take elaborate actions to immediately balance their supply of teachers against the demand to not have a backlog of students who remain without assistance. It should also be considered that as most of the current teachers would soon be retiring, their experiences and knowledge can be used to gain help in developing new schools and systems to assist these students. Not only this, but they can also help in hiring and training of new teachers who can serve this sector.
