As a parent, you are probably considering the best options for your child – are CBSE schools good enough? Are they better than state schools? Or should you enroll your child in a more expensive international school?
CBSE schools are those that are based on a CBSE core curriculum, which is designed by a panel of experts in education. The men and women who design the CBSE syllabus have experience of decades at teaching children and know exactly what students in India are lagging at and what their strengths are.
There are CBSE schools of all types in India. There are some that are world class, and provide a very high quality of education. There are others that do not have the best facilities, are underfunded, but have highly committed teachers.
CBSE Schools vs. State Schools – Which is Better?
The main difference between a CBSE school and a state school is that CBSE schools focus on the all-round development of the child through games and interactive activities. State schools on the other hand, are more academically oriented. Certainly, for small children, CBSE schools are much better.
Also, one finds that the level of education in CBSE schools, especially in core subjects such as English, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, is far superior to what you have in state schools.
There is no question that state schools charge much lower fees than CBSE schools and they are the only option for a vast majority of parents in India belonging to the middle class or the lower middle class. State schools will always be important and the students that come out of such schools are highly talented, intelligent and second to none.
One of India’s favourite sons, the late President Abdul Kalam, a renowned scientist, was a product of a state school, so state schools are doing a great job. But if you have an option between a state school and a CBSE school for your child, you should certainly consider the latter as long as you can afford the fees.
Why CBSE Schools are So Popular?
There are more than 15,000 CBSE schools in India. CBSE means Central Board of Secondary Education. Every year, there are scores of new CBSE schools springing up across the country. The demand for these schools is very high indeed.
The reason CBSE schools are so popular is because they don’t emphasise mugging or rote learning. Many parents have complained that in state schools, students who are good at rote learning do better while those who are more creative in their thinking or have original thoughts or ideas get neglected.
As a parent you must be wondering about the best CBSE schools for your child in your area. It is not easy to enrol your child in a CBSE school as the competition to get into them is fierce.
