National Institute of Technology Agartala was previously known as the Tripura Engineering college and it is a public engineering college. It was established in 1965 as Tripura Engineering College and later, it had been transformed in to a National Institute of Technology in 2006.

This institute is affiliated to the Ministry of Human Resource Development Government of India and its chairman is Mr. Deepak B. Phatak. Located in Agartala, Tripura, the main institute campus is urban in nature and it is spread across an area of 365 acres.

Among all of the engineering colleges of India, this institute has ranked 92^nd according to the NIRF.
