Maharaja Bir Bikram University is a state university located at Agartala in Tripura. It is a public university and it was established in 2015 through Maharaja Bir Bikram University Act. 2015. The university is named after Bir Bikram Kishore Debbarman and he was the last ruling king or Maharaja of the state of Tripura.

Although, the university is relatively new, it is the one and only state university of Tripura. Mr. Gautam Kumar Basu is the first Vice chancellor of this institute. This institute has a decent campus with almost all of the modern amenities for the students. This institute is affiliated with University Grants Commission or UGC, as each and every university of India.
