Banaras Hindu University was formerly known as the central Hindu College and now, it is a public central university located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. In 1916, Madan Mohan Malaviya established this university and at this moment, the university has 30,000 students residing in the campus. It also claims to be the largest residential university in Asia.  

The university main campus is spread over 1,300 acres of land and the land is donated by Kashi Naresh, the hereditary ruler of Banaras. It has another campus named as south campus, spread over 2,700 acres of land and it hosts the Agricultural Science center. It is located about 60 km away from the Banaras.

In short, Banaras Hindu University is also known as BHU and this university has 6 institutions, 14 facilities and 140 departments. In 2017, the total student enrollment was 27,359. The university comes up with the motto, “Knowledge Imparts Immortality”. At this moment, the university has 3,766 doctoral research students. Over 23,000 students are currently studying under various schools and department in different under graduate and post graduate courses.

Programs and Research Facilities

  • Right now, the institution is offering UG, PG and Doctoral Research program and it has several schools and departments offering tantalizing tutoring experience.
  • In addition, all of the facilities are equipped with first-rated tools and instruments so that the students could get the best out of them and the research scholars could conduct researches with utmost perfection                
  • The campus area has all the modern amenities for the students. The departments have computer labs and their individual laboratories for conducting researches.
  • The library of this institution is rich and it contains thousands of books. It contains Wi-Fi zone and residences for the students.
  • The campus offers cafeteria and canteen as well.
  • The institution also provides transportation for the students.
  • The institution has a medical facility available for the students.
  • For better accommodation of the academic staffs and research scholars, it has separate residential buildings.
  • The institution offers an e-portal of information for the students through their websites, so that the students could be up-to-dated with all essential information. 
  • All examinations and results are published through the e-portal
  • Using the information portal, students could gain access to the institution calendar as well.        
  • The institution also holds various seminars and workshops on a regular basis where scholars could publish their papers.
