Description

A chauffeur is an adept driver designated to drive the client to their desired destination in a vehicle. Their job may or may not be full time, and they perform tasks apart from driving as well.

A chauffeur’s job includes practical input and behavioral input as well.  The practical one revolves around driving firmly to the destination (or a couple of destinations)for the client without discomfort or inconvenience, and the behavioral input is to greet their clients, ask them about their preferred route, open the car doors for them as they sit and/or leave as well as helping them with their luggage. The chauffeurs are often hired to serve for a  company’s highly paid employees such as a CEO, Directors and other Executives, that saves them from spending their energies and time on road, and enables them to carry on with their work whilst covering the distance to their workplaces or just have a couple of minutes to rest. In this case, the companies provide their own vehicles to the chauffeurs.

Many chauffeur’s also have their own agencies, where they provide their services to the clients on fare or rental basis, and in this case the chauffeurs offer their own vehicles as well as maintain it.  Although the vehicle could be anything, but the preferred one should be at least an executive car providing due luxury, space and comfort to the client. A lot of rich people, including celebrities, politicians, businessmen, sports athletes and other prominent figures of the society, prefer keeping a chauffeur around full-time to drive their cars. This saves them the hassle of keeping an eye on the car or maintaining it, or having to drive around town themselves.

Common Duties/Routines

A chauffeur has some essential tasks that come with part of being in the job. It is their responsibility to fulfill these tasks, since chauffeurs are usually very highly paid and the people who could afford them, want the very best at the price they pay for. The chauffeurs needs to make sure that the client reaches to their destination safe and sound, on time. This will include driving through heaps of traffic and navigating through the busiest areas of the city. They are supposed to park the car in a manner that doesn’t cause any hindrances to the people travelling, provides enough space for the occupant to walk out of the car, and doesn’t harm the vehicle.

The chauffeurs should also help their clients carrying/loading the luggage or any heavy weighing items. They must also ensure that the vehicle is serviced and does not have any discomfort or odor. They should be vocal enough to engage with the client if necessary. A chauffeur must possess proper hygiene, cleanliness, appropriate dressing; preferably a black suit paired with a black tie and white shirt.  They must have the skill to maintain the records and paperwork.

Required/Trained Skills

There is no particular academic criteria for a chauffeur, however a literate, high school graduate would be a considered. They must have a driving license of the country of occupation, before driving on the roads. The chauffeur must have active reflexes to ensure the safety of the vehicle as well as the client. If a chauffeur has a fair idea of local roads,  and time saving routes, that counts as an advantage for their jobs. They must be attentive enough to cater to the demands of the client, and must refrain from unnecessary arguments. 

The work situations of a chauffeurs aren’t too tough, although it might get a little tricky if there’s a shortage of time and traffic. This job serves best for people who are fond of driving, and it also serves as a great opportunity for them to drive cars that are usually too expensive for everyone to buy.
