Technology is changing the face of learning

Technology is changing the face of learning

We can all say that education today is not what it was even two years ago much to say two decades ago. Education is ever changing and it is evident to all those who are taking notice. In earlier times, it can be said that books, pens and pencils were the main tools of education. However, over the years we have seen a big change in what is considered among the most valuable and safe to say, technology is one of those.

Technology has become a vital part of the teaching and learning process right across the board from early childhood through to colleges/universities. We have seen how schools have taken the new approach to ensuring technology is a part of the classroom because students are more adept to it and find it easier to learn with.

For any teacher in the education system right now whether in the US or the UK, they will tell you that their students’ learning have improved greatly since incorporating at least one for of technology in the learning process. But how does the implementation impact the learning process?

Here are a few ways in which technology has changed the whole perception to learning, and yes, for the better:

  • Education is more than just in the bounds of the classroom walls

With the incorporation of tablets and iPads in the classroom, students are now able to carry their learning to different environments including the outdoor, home or any other comfortable locations for them. The previous confinement to a computer lab may be seen as a thing of the past.

  • Textbooks/Notebooks may be heading for extinction

This may seem like a bad thing but let’s face it, students will have easier access to textbooks when they have gone digital and reduces the loads of bringing them to schools. Also, the limitations of textbooks in places such as the libraries (because other students are using) will no longer be an issue. Students will only have their tablets along with their other school necessities and it is indeed a health benefit too. This makes it more affordable for parents because the need for buying separate books every year is really too much.

  • More personalized learning

The incorporation of technology will result in a more personalized learning experience. Students and teachers can now have direct access in enhancing learning and providing additional assistance to students as needed. Students can have one-on-one experience with teachers both n and out of the classroom which is definitely a plus for the education sector.

  • More collaboration in the classroom

Modern day learning means interaction among teachers and students and this is what technology is bringing. Students can have easier access to group learning, studying and coursework completion from different locations other than the classroom.

This can be considered as a plus for the education system and has so much more benefits to its incorporation to the learning process. There are indeed countless benefits which have been researched, tested and proven to be a positive development. As noted, technology is growing every day thus the benefits to all involved will be ever increasing.
