Martin Luther Christian University was established in 2005. It emerges with the motto, ‘The Alpha and Omega as embodiment of "the light of truth’ and its chairperson is Dr. Glenn C Kharkongor. Its vice chancellor is Rd. Vincent C. Darlong and it is located in Shillong, Meghalaya.

Situated at the heart of Shillong, the main university campus is urban in nature and it is affiliated with UGC, AIU, NAAC and Medical council of India. National Lutheran Health and Medical Board of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church of India and the Khasi-Jaintia Presbyterian Assembly of the Presbyterian Church of India sponsored this university.

The university is accredited to the PCI, INC and MCI. At this moment, the university is offering education in the fields of vocational education, health care, communication, agriculture, peace studies and developmental projects.
