Sikkim University is one of the leading central universities in Sikkim and it located in Gangtok, Sikkim. However, the campus is built in an urban area at Yangang in South Sikkim district. It is 56 kilometers away from the main city of Gangtok.

Established in 2006, the Sikkim University was started with four departments, such as Social System and Anthropology; Peace and Conflict Studies and Management; International Relations/Politics; and Microbiology. At present, the university is offering traditional courses in humanities, life science, physical science and forestry.

The Sikkim University is also a leading institution for providing non-traditional courses, which are unique in their modules and related to the ethnic history, mountain history, hill music, border studies as well as culture.  

The campus area of the Sikkim University is spread over a decent area of land providing enough room for the research scholars to conduct their experiments. It has all the modern amenities for the students. It contains a large computer lab. The library of this institution is rich and it contains a good chunk of rare collection. It contains Wi-Fi zone and residences for the students.

In addition, it also provides transportation for the students. Furthermore, the campus offers cafeteria and canteen as well. It also has a medical facility available for the students. For better accommodation of the academic staffs and research scholars, it has separate residential buildings.
