Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology was previously known as the KIIT university and it emerges with the motto, “Sā Vidyā Yā Vimuktayē”, in Sanskrit. In English, it means, “Education is that which liberates”. It is a deemed to be university and it was established in 1992. Achyuta Samanta is the founder of this university and the university is affiliated to UGC, NAAC and ACU. The university is located in Odisha, Bhubaneshwar. 

The chancellor of this university is N. L. Mitra and Vice-chancellor of this university is Krushikesha Mohanti. At the moment, the university has over 27,000 students. The university is offering UG, PG and doctoral research courses in Engineering, Medicine, bio-technology, Management, Law, Computer Application, Fashion, Film Studies, Journalism, Architecture, Sculpturing and Rural Management.

The university was granted the deemed to be university status in 2004 and in 2017, it was renamed as the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology. The NAAC accredited this university with an “A” status. This university is a member of Association of Commonwealth Universities. The university is ranked 251^st globally according to the QS World University Ranking. According to NIRF, it is ranked 51^st among the top engineering colleges in India. In management studies, the university has ranked 30^th according to the NIRF.
