Defense Institute of Advanced Technology, Pune was previously known as the institute of Armament Studies. It is a deemed to be university and it acts under the department of defense research and development.

The present stature of the Defense Institute of Advanced Technology has come in to being from the transformation of Institute of Armament Technology. That institute was established in 1952 and it was the parent institute of present standing of the Defense Institute of Advanced Technology.

The chancellor of this university is the defense minister of India. The vice chancellor is Dr. Hina A. Gokhale. This particular institution has ranked 63^rd among all of the engineering colleges of India, according to NIRF.
