The Andhra University raises up with the motto, “Tejasvi nāvadhītamastu” in native tongue. In English, it stands as, “May the Devine Light Illuminate Our Studies”. Andhra University is a public university situated in 1926 and the governor of Andhra Pradesh is the chancellor of this university.

G. Nageswara Rao is the Vice chancellor of this university and Gyatri Devi is acting as the Rector. Located in Vishakhapatnam, the university campus is urban in nature. The university has a nickname and it has been known as AU. The Andhra University is affiliated to UGC.

The main university campus has two segments, the south campus and the north campus. The south campus hosts the faculty of Arts, humanities as well as sciences. In accession, the administrative block is also located in south campus. The north campus hosts the college of engineering.

The university has four constituent colleges, such as: the college of arts and commerce, the college of science and technology, the college of engineering and the college of law.

The university has 32 study centers and it has 19 hostels for men and 4 hostels for women. The university hostel is capable of holding up to 4,300 students.
