William H. Ray Elementary School is located in the heart of the Hyde Park Community just two blocks from the University of Chicago campus. The school has approximately 640 students ranging from pre-kindergarten through 8th grade. It is both a neighborhood and Magnet Cluster School.
Tutors from the University of Chicago are used to help the diverse student body master a challenging curriculum. In addition to the University of Chicago, Ray also has partnerships with the Hyde Park Art Center, ArtShould, and the Chicago Children's Choir.
Ray School's student body is made up of students from African American (62%), Caucasian (17%), Asian (7%), Hispanic (8%), and other (7%) backgrounds and is 58% lower income.
