Aldo, a Dreamer, or recipient of the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, doesn’t have the luxury of searching for colleges based on football teams and course tracks. Instead, due to his status, he and other Dreamers are limited to sanctuary schools, meaning some University System of Georgia schools are off the table.
Aldo and two other Georgia-based Dreamers are featured in “The Unafraid,” a documentary screened at Cine on Sept. 13 about the three protagonists navigating the college process. For Aldo, the dream is to study astronomy. Alejandro wants to research sustainability, and Silvía wants to become a nurse.
The dreamers have hope now with Kemp and Abrams being polar opposites. They think that for the first time in a long time there’s a really good chance, and now’s a more important time than ever.”
