Foxconn, UWM partnering in new international co-op program for engineering students

As the Wisconsin workforce group expands internationally, all students enrolled in engineering program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) will now have the opportunity to study in Taiwan and gain first hand work experience at the Foxconn Technology Group.

Recruitment of the students will start in the fall, first five students will be chosen under the agreement signed between Foxconn and Chung Yuan Christian University Taiwan. The same will be done with other universities as well as the Foxconn needs more engineers.

Under the agreement, students will spend some quality time in the new facility built by Foxconn before going to Taiwan. The co-op program introduced will help students to work with liquid crystal display fabrication technology and processes.

The program will give first-hand experience to all students which will help them apply their learning in the real-world. Another feature is that students from UWM and CYCU and Southern University in China will be able to work in collaboration.

According to the university, 89% of UWM engineering students will be able to complete 1 internship or co-op before they graduate. The new Foxconn co-op program will be their second internship/ co-op program for students at the UWM college of Engineering and Applied Science.
