What critics of a liberal arts and sciences education are missing

In a recent column written by John Stossel, “What everyone’s afraid to say about college and jobs,” what Stossel fails to mention is that getting an education in the liberal arts and science opens up more opportunities to productive and meaningful lives.

Professor Bryan Caplan’s “The Case Against Education: Why the Education System is a Waste of Time and Money”, is quoted in the column written by Stossel.

However, is it found out that the top factor which leads to six-figure salaries takes course outside your major. George Anders in “You Can Do Anything: The Surprising Power of a Useless Liberals Arts Education” said that opportunities often arise in the junctures between the two disciplines in the rapidly evolving world.

Colleges today are exploring topics that do not have immediate returns but become the fuel for the long arc of careers.

Instead of focusing on improving educational outcomes and teaching quality, educational burdens should be shifter from the taxpayers to students and their families. The experiment has already started as a result of Great Recession.

At present, the liberal arts and sciences are now not only important for individual career success but also for the overall national economy and is very essential to the country.
