Trump wants to eliminate federal funding for D.C. tuition aid program

President Trump has come up with a new policy to cut down the federal funding aid initiative. The policy has put the future of many tuition assistance grant in jeopardy.

The federal fund provided $40 million for these programs through which many students were able to afforded college. The policy will end the program that has previously supported 26,000 district students to attend college.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said, “DCTAG is a successful program that has worked for years to expand educational opportunities for our young people, and it is unfathomable that any leader working to build a safer, stronger and more competitive country would choose to cut a program like this rather than expanding it.”

A twitter hashtag #SaveDCTAG has been started by Bowser’s office. D.C. Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton assured parent and students that they will not lose the tuition assistance program.

Senators have complained that the program was not successful and it did not live up to their expectations as the national average of award recipients has gone down. An audit conducted in 2014 found out management issues and weak financial control in the program.
