D.C. Public Schools leader to resign after skirting school assignment rules

Antwan Wilson, D.C. Public Schools was forced to resign on Tuesday from his tenure of 1 year and 19 days after he got his daughter transferred to a coveted school.

Mayor Muriel E. Bowser was the second to leave after the crisis of the ‘Deputy Mayor for Education Jennifer Niles’ case. The resignation of these two left two vacant position in the school admin. It also sent some turmoil in the education sector.

Currently Amanda Alexander has been appointed in the place of Mr. Wilson. On the other hand, Browser is up for re-election.

In a news conference Bowser said, “There are too many tough decisions in the coming months to have any distractions. I want to focus on finishing the year for our kids. I am obviously very disappointed, but I am committed.

Bowser remained confident in Wilson’s leadership skills and supported him until the D.C. Council demanded Mr. Wilson’s ouster. Wilson’s contract can be cancelled by Bowser at any time without any cause.

The terms of Wilson’s severance are still an on-going debate. The council and parents think that Mr. Wilson cheated the system that many families struggle to navigate.
