Brown’s budget seeks big changes to community college funding and online learning

Governor Jerry Brown, in a bid to change the community college funding for the better, presents an initiative to increase the funding of the schools that provide education to the students hailing from lower income group. According to the current and traditional method of fund allocation, each community college is allocated funds based on the number of students each one of them enrolls.

As per his proposal, no community college will be allocated lesser funds that what they are receiving as of now. But half of the funds that are to be allocated in the future should be allocated based on the number of students enrolled in each college, a quarter of them be allocated on the basis of number of students receiving financial aid from state and the last quarter of fund be allocated according to the number of degrees and certifications granted to the students.

Michele Siqueiros, president of Campaign for College opportunity said in one of the interviews "Strategic funding, by the State of California, to increase college success by providing fiscal incentives to improve time to degree, transfer and graduation is long time overdue." This proposal has been greatly applauded by the general public and students in particular.
