It comes as a surprise to know that the college trustees do not look at career training for students as a top priority. According to the survey conducted by the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and colleges, 22% of college trustees believed that preparing the graduate students to become a part of the workforce was the top priority in the 21st century.
The statistics of this survey confirms the conflict in thinking of students and the trustees in their institutes. According to students, a decent paying job is what they seek; after completing a 4-year degree. However, the trustees do not train their students for the career that they are to pursue after completing their study.
One-third of the surveys conducted showed that higher education caters the demand of the workforce. However, there are still many skilled jobs this day that are vacant.
The main job of the trustees is to ensure that the goal of their institute is being fulfilled. They have been trusted with the authority to shape the vision of their institute; which depicts the success of its students. If a trustee are not certain of their role and does not work according to the rules set for them, then the students will be forced to choose alternative paths.
