Early Childhood Education “senseless”?

Early Childhood Education “senseless”?

We have always heard how valuable an early childhood education system is and the importance of allowing your child the opportunity to experience this. However, one nominee for the post of deputy secretary in the Department of Education in the US thinks otherwise.

President Donald Trump’s selected nominee to fill the position as deputy secretary for education, Mick Zais, has made is opinion known that he does not see the importance of the early childhood sector on national development. His interview with the Senate Health, Education and Labour Pensions Committee took place on Wednesday afternoon with the various rounds of questions posed to him.

Having served in the education sector before as a superintendent, responsible for many of the decision and policy making for the department he was placed in. He did ensure everything was in well order and all aspects of the related education sector under his watch was critically assessed and managed. His educational background also proved as strong evidence of his support to the education sector.

However, it all turned to frustration and misunderstanding on his part from the public when back in 2010 during one of his campaign for education, he made the shocking statement of not seeing the relevance of spending money on the early childhood sector. He noted that he did not see the value in spending money on funding education for 5 year olds because they were just too young to learn.

But for a nominee in the education sector, how can he even think to make such a statement? For sure, it did not go down too well with other stakeholders in the education sector as they vowed to have him removed before he “wrecked” the developmental aspect of society. But to now see he was nominated by the president to fill such a critical position, what does that say?

For sure this whole nomination and voting process is being carefully watched because for such an importance area of a child’s development to be thrown out the door, is something of a major concern.
