Pre-School Montessori ( 3-5 year olds)
The school stays open throughout the year, and during the summer months children are engaged in arts and crafts and outdoor games. Reports are kept on all children recording their social, emotional, physical and intellectual abilities.
Our staff are educated to degree standard in Childcare. We specialise in education, offering lots of different part-time (mornings only) options for your child. The teachers also introduce children to musical instruments, movement and song. Teachers complete a Paediatric First Aid course, after six months of service with the créche, and this is updated every 3 years Babies and Toddlers are engaged in lots of activities including ball games, exercise ball, hiding games, colouring and painting for the older children.
They have their own fenced off playground, and the older children are brought out to play every day, and babies are brought out, weather permitting. The playground has safety surfacing and a canopy to sit under for the babies. Parents receive a report at the end of each day recording sleep times, nappy changes, meals, and all relevant information is recorded in the child's developmental sheet. Playschool children are introduced to puzzles, threading, vocabulary development, songs and stories, painting and drawing. They go out every day before dinner to their own fenced off playground, which has climbing frames, play equipment and a sand table. Children commence Montessori between 25/30 months old. They are introduced to Practical life equipment i.e. dressing frames, pouring, spooning, polishing, carrying a chair, using the toilet, washing hands, blowing nose. They also begin simple sensorial exercises i.e. building pink tower, knobbed cyclinders, and pre-number skills. Children are introduced to more difficult tasks when they have mastered these skills. The Montessori materials allow for children to correct their own mistakes, so they can build on their experiences, and this in turn develops their confidence. The Montessori curriculum is a two year course, and children would normally spend one year in the Junior class, and 1 year in the senior class.
The children also do arts and crafts, music and play. Most importantly of all... they are very happy children! If you would like to visit the créche, no appointment is necessary.
Please visit between 9am - 11am or 2pm and 5pm. We look forward to hearing from you. Phil/Jessie
