Overview

Butterflies Montessori provides a safe, secure and happy environment for the child. Our aim is to achieve a fun learning atmosphere to enable the child to feel comfortable at all times.

The focus is on the child and we understand and respect the individual ability of each and every child, and their need to develop at their own individual pace. We employ the Montessori principles of education and the child works with many exercises set out in Practical Life and Sensorial, enabling him/her to grow in confidence and independence. The child is always encouraged to work according to his/her own requirements. The child receives lessons in maths and language gaining an understanding of numbers and the phonetic alphabet.

Our cultural materials promote a sense of awareness within the child of not only his/her immediate environment, but also of the wider world. Through employing a cosmic approach the child becomes aware of his/her place within the world. We celebrate feast and culture days.

Nature plays a very important role in Butterflies Montessori. We love to go exploring on nature walks, bringing back items of interest to display on our nature table. Our garden is tended all year round with plenty of digging and planting to be done in our vegetable plot. We also plant individual pots from time to time and enjoy watering and watching our seeds grow, eventually bringing them home.

At Butterflies we take a keen interest in art and craft and the child is encouraged to express his/her creative talents whenever the urge takes. We have plenty of drawing and painting materials available at all times. We also have weekly art and craft sessions when we like to busy ourselves with paints, glue, printing materials and anything else that takes our fancy.

Every day after lunch we have ‘circle time’ which consists of group activities such as stories, poetry, song, dance, music and drama. Butterflies Montessori has a large outdoor play area which provides an ideal opportunity for play and exercise. There are swings and monkey bars as well as bikes and trikes to choose from. The child is free to relax, play in the sand-pit, or just enjoy the great outdoors.
