General information, Lilliput Playschool
Overview
Our goal at Lilliput is to provide a warm, relaxed environment where children are supported in their learning.
Each child is an individual, and is therefore encouraged to learn at his/her own pace, following their interests and developing their abilities and learning in all areas – social, emotional, physical intellectual and language.
We feel that it is important to learn through play. We therefore operate a play-based curriculum in line with the state frameworks ‘Aistear’ and ‘Síolta’ (you can find these documents online).
A wide variety of play opportunities are available to children at Lilliput. These include outdoor play, gardening, sand, water, art, construction, imaginative play, puzzles, music and dancing, stories, songs, group time and more. Each fortnight a different theme is undertaken, many based around the natural cycle of the year, others chosen because they reflect the children’s interests. These themes provide learning opportunities both specific to them and in a broader sense e.g. vocabulary, fine motor skills, etc.
While children play they develop essential emotional and social skills, learn how to problem solve, become more effective communicators, develop and perfect physical skills, and come to a greater understanding of the world around them. We adults endeavour to support this child-driven learning through modelling of actions and behaviours, working with children to increase ability and understanding, and working with parents to greater support their child’s learning at home and at playschool.
